CoQ10

Product description

The human body naturally produces its own CoQ10.  As normal aging occurs then CoQ10 can decrease.  Also, over weight people and obese individuals often suffer from decreased natural reserves of CoQ10.  People that take statin medications to reduce LDL-C cholesterol can also reduce natural reserves of CoQ10 and most cardiologists recommend supplmenting with CoQ10.

If you are age 25 or older, have decreased energy, difficulty concentrating, or just general fatigue, this product may be the fix for you.  Give it a try and get your engine running again.  CoQ10 is the spark plug that ignites the body’s engine by jump starting energy production within all cells. The body then uses that cellular energy to fuel all vital biological processes.

Dosing of CoQ10

Suggested use:  Take 1 to 2 capsules per day with or without food.

Contraindications:  means that you should not take this product if you are taking one of the listed products below.  You should check with your medical provider prior to taking this product if you are taking any of the listed medications.

  • Medications for cancer (Chemotherapy) interacts with COENZYME Q10 (CoQ10).  CoQ10 is an antioxidant and there is some concern that antioxidants might decrease the effectiveness of some medications used for cancers.
  • Medications for high blood pressure (Antihypertensive drugs) can interact with CoQ10.  CoQ10 seems to decrease blood pressure. Taking CoQ10 along with medications for high blood pressure might cause your blood pressure to go too low.  Some medications for high blood pressure include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
  • Warfarin (Coumadin) interacts with CoQ10.  Warfarin (Coumadin) is used to slow blood clotting. There is evidence that CoQ10 helps improve clotting factor within the blood.  By helping the blood clot, coenzyme Q-10 might decrease the effectiveness of warfarin (Coumadin). Decreasing the effectiveness of warfarin (Coumadin) might increase the risk of clotting. Be sure to have your blood checked regularly. The dose of your warfarin (Coumadin) might need to be changed.

Physiology of CoQ10

Coenzyme Q10 is the spark plug that ignites the body’s engine by jump starting energy production within all cells. The body then uses that cellular energy to fuel vital biological processes. CoQ10 is present in every cell of your body and it is essential for sustaining a wide range of healthy biological functions.

One of CoQ10’s pivotal roles in the body is energy metabolism.  The major part of cellular ATP (energy) production happens within the inner membrane of the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell.  CoQ10 is a critical component of the electron transfer chain in mitochondrial respiration.  Due to the vital role it plays in the production of cellular energy, small changes in CoQ10 levels within the mitochondria have been shown to have significant effects on the rate of cellular respiration.  Thus, a lack of CoQ10 may lead to declining energy levels and decreased stamina.

CoQ10 in the Ubiquinol form plays a key role as an antioxidant by neutralizing free radicals and preventing oxidative damage to the body’s cells, proteins, lipids and DNA.  CoQ10 can also regenerate the active forms of vitamin E and vitamin C, some of the most powerful water-soluble antioxidants.

  • It is also known as Q10, vitamin Q10, ubiquinone, or ubidecarenone.
